Babel, Isaac
(1894-1939)
   Ukrainian writer. He was born in Odessa. He served on the Romanian front after the Russian Revolution. From 1923 he devoted himself to literature and many of his stories contain Jewish themes. He was arrested and disap-peared in 1939. His writings include Red Cavalry, Collected Stories and The Lonely Years, 1925-1939.
